Jamnagar The city of Jamnagar is the district headquarters which consist of a space of 14,125 sq.km circumferences and accommodates more than 2 million populations as of today. This spot is also an historical dated area, wherein olden day’s temples and culture does exist will be a proof for it. Jamnagar is famously known as one of the six Saurashtra region of Gujarat and also known for its pearl fisheries, brass metal products and nature cures. Apart from these values Jamnagar stands unique in its conventional handicraft namely ( bandhej or bandhani).Dwaraka is considered to be the most scared pilgrim center which is related to the Krishna legend as per the Hindu religion beliefs, it is said that Lord Krishna leaves Mathura and establishes his own kingdom at Dwaraka is the mythical history. Places to visit at Jamnagar are Pratap Vilas Palace, the 16th century Darbargadh Palace, the Lakhota Lake etc; the months of September to March will be an ideal indication to visit Jamnagar. Jamnagar is basically located on the coastal area, being a close neighbour to Pakistan this district enhances air and naval base stations. Previously this location was one of the most important princely states of Nawanagar. During the year 1540 this location was formed by Jam Rawal he who was the great Jadeja Rajput leader, later this spot has been named as Jamnagar which was their hereditary title is shared to name this district as Jamnagar or the city of Jams. Moreover this district is famously known as the ‘Jewel of Kathiawad’ because of its landscape and the ancient monuments , broad roads, extraordinary building frontals and artistic arches and squares will really make man say great to those days workmanship of excellence and is known as the most wonderful settlements of Saurashtra peninsula. Today Jamnagar is a fast growing location into trade and exports, the spot is famous for its major brass industry and Bandhini fabrics which are the unique trade that excels here, the other elements are given importance based on temples which are very ancient and still exist as an identity to the town as the ‘Chothi Kashi’. The major tourist spots are Willington Crescent, Lakhola fort, Kotha Bastion, Marine National Park, Bala Hanuman Temple and Jain temple. Bedi This location is the major intercede anchoring port on the shores of the mighty Arabian Sea. This spot is a ideal exit for trading agricultural products,coal and bauxite. Dwarka Being an ancient town this spot has its values of historical monuments and temples around here, situated at the confluence of Gomti Rover and Arabian Sea Dwarka town is known to be the most holy pilgrimage center among the four in the country. The life of Lord Krishna is adored and being sanctified here , the birth anniversary of Lord Krishna is celebrated as Janamashtmi a great event of pomp and glory is exalted here, the other places of tourist interest are the picturesque Lighthouse, Dwarkadheesh temple (Jagat Mandir), dunny Point, Rukmini Temple, Nageshwar Mandir and Bet Dwarka. A sail on boat to the island of Bet near Okha will be an excitement. The best season of visit could be made during the months of October to March. Gaga Great Indian Bustard sanctuary Wherever there are woods around there is no conspiracy for creatures and birds to live in and to be said it’s a jungle. This sanctuary located on the coast of the Gulf of Kutch at Kalyanpur Taluk is purely established to provide inviolate refuge for Great Indian Bustard with an intention to minimize its depredation. This spot is an area of 4 sq.km which is encircled with grasslands and saline scrubs that provides nature in serener, this awesome spot is an ideal spot for some other terrestrial birds and wild mammals such as wolf, jackals, mongoose, jungle cat and blue bull. Khijadia Bird Sanctuary This location is considered to be an important site for ecological studies and researches, but mostly a home town for international and national birds and other living things. The shallow lake of fresh water, inter-tidal mudflats, creeks, saltpans, saline land and mangrove scrub creates this sanctuary as a breeding land for Great Crested Grebe and also the Little Grebe, Purple Moorhen, Coot, Black-winged stilt and Pheasant- tailed Jacana is also breed here. Raptors like Harriers, Eagles, Hawks and Falcons are also spotted here, migratory birds like Swallows, Martins, Wagtails and various water fowls are also found here. Photographers and nature lover’s haven on earth is here in this location is a fact. Marine National Park This is known to be the India’s first marine national park with a spread over area of 458 sq.km. The location is filled with flora and fauna. The landscape penlights Mangrove, coral reefs, sea grass, seaweeds, sandy areas, mudflats which support some habitats in the Gulf of Kutch to be here too… inhabitants are great Indian bustard, one-horned antelope, dugong, turtles , shrimp, spongs, eels, sea urchin lurk, and huge traffic of fish. The best season is October to March. Pindhara This is a scared location mentioned as Pinda Taraka in Mahabharata. It is said that the sage Durvasas had his hermitage here. The temple of Pindara is the attraction and the feeding of 350 to 400 peacocks every dawn by Naranbhai Karangia a resident of Kennedy village will be a great attraction. Salaya Here the port is as important as everything around, located at the western part of India allows to ply in hundreds of country crafts between Gujarat – Mumbai, the ferry goods are carried to and from Middle east and East Africa through Salaya. Crude oil pipeline from international waters first enters Salaya before heading any directions to the country. Reliance has built a huge refineries industry here. Ranjit Sagar Dam There is a vast difference between a Lake and a Dam,
Lake is natures gift and Dam is mankind’s effort, this proves the
workmanship of men those days, this spot is a popular location to picnic,
this dam was constructed by His Highness jam Rajitsinhji, but was completed
in the year 1938 when His Highness Jam Digvjaysinhji, the last ruler of
this princely state of Jamnagar and this dam was initially named as Ganga
Sagar and a tribute to His Highness Sir Gangasinhji ( King of Bikaner),
he was the one who laid the foundation stone in order to serve many.
